In addition to being an exercise in high-design, the FireHouse is also a social experiment where we have created a living environment that connects residents with each other--and to the unique place that they share. A large part of this goal has been achieved through the creation of a community garden. Situated behind the building, this beautiful outdoor space consists of a public gathering area and raised beds that are available to the residents for growing vegetables and herbs. There are also composting facilities available in order to encourage the recycling of organic waste.
With the garden, we hope to build community and give folks the opportunity to grow some of their own food. In a world that increasing isolates us from each other and personal interaction, the community garden at the FireHouse may be a way to reconnect both with each other…and the earth. We hope you enjoy it!
